Re: Tach Reduction box
Steve,The GEARS may well be lubricated with #600W gear oil, but are the SHAFTS and bearings lubricated?? Shafts and bearings can wear. A bit of oil leaking is no big deal on an XPAG, keeps part from rusting. I use #90 gear oil and so far so good . Please remember to keep a few drops engine oil in the rear bushing of the generator to keep the porous oilite bronze bushing well lubricated.Bob, Canada From: mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com [mailto:mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Steve S mail@mgnuts.com [mg-tabc]

Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] Tach Reduction box I put a NOS unit into my TC several years ago and decided to try 600W gear oil as used in Model T rear ends. It's really more like a 250W, maybe 320W by modern standards. It hasn't leaked and the unit is still in perfect running order. So far so good.

Subject: [mg-tabc] Tach Reduction box I am in the midst of cleaning and refurbishing my tac reduction box. Some idiot (me) loaded it with chassis grease and it (thankfully) managed to work itself off the generator; else I suspect the would be nice shiny nubs where the gear teeth once meshed. My stupidity aside, does anyone have a recommendation for the gear oil the Book notes? And any other thoughts? Many Thanks, _PeterTC0604
