This is for Bill. Too many years ago I wrote a short story called THE LAST KING. It was published in the old SPORTS CAR GRAPHIC magazine. Gas engines had been outlawed and govt. Inspectors went around capturing any engined miscreants. And shredding them. Finally there was just one. A Ferrari. One night the inspectors chased the car up a mountain. Rather than be captured the driver sailed the car off the top of the mountain to its- and his- supposed end. The story was being told by a person who had accumulated all the parts off the mountain and was almost finished with the restoration.
I wondered if that might have been the story you thought you read in R&T? Phil May, Williamsburg, VA

While I agree wholeheartedly that the early B-GT and the TC are beauties eclipsed only by the 60's era E-type., a quick search of the '10 most beautiful' brings back stunning results.....a 1970 Dodge Challenger?.......Really? A stingray? A merc 300 gull wing? Desirable maybe, collectable definately, but beautiful? Not even at closing time on a long weekend with two fisted beer goggles.

Any US-spec metal-dash GT..... except for the addition of reverse lamps to the back panel somewhere around GHD3L90000, all of the GTs between 72000 and 132000 are going to be pretty much the same spec, regardless of titled year. Mine's GHD3L84584 (pre-reverse lamps), which I think might have left the factory in '66. Although it was titled as a '68 in the US. If we call them all '67s, we're close enough....

We should start a sub-club, those of us with a TC and '67 GT. How many others have that specific combination?

Me too and I concur. The early 60's B-GT and the TC are second only to the early E type for pure beauty and style. Sorry, my opinion, but the best of Italy is third....and the germans don't even get to play

I recall a story in Road and Track Magazine from the 1970's where oil
became scarce and the use of gasoline powered automobiles was banned
forever. Author was possibly Peter Egan...? I'd like to locate that
story.
The main character in the story owned a classic/vintage car and
plotted and planned to keep driving his classic. He somehow set up a
still in his garage to make 'gasoline 39; and when he had a supply he
would take his car out in the dark of night and zoom around town.
This unknown terrorist-motorist was on the government agents wanted
list. The punishment was severe.
If I remember right...
He was out driving one night and was chased by the alerted agents and
almost caught; just in time making back to the security of his
garage. He would have to wait another month for the accumulation of
more 'gasoline 39;. The story ends with drip, drip, drip from the
spout of the 'still 39;.
While on the subject of R&T articles there is another I would like to
find and I may have it deeply stored somewhere. The late 80's or
early 90's R&T had a series on the '10 Best of". The 10 best was
voted on by several automotive journalists from inside and outside
R&T.
The one I seek was something like 'The 10 Best aesthetic automobiles
of all time'. The MG TC and the MG B/GT were both in the 10! I liked that cause I have both a TC and a '67 B/GT for the past 1/2 century.
