Clive, Certainly makes sense shipping date to overseas would be later than a build date.  However TC 7474 has a build date of Dec 23, 1948 while letter from factory says "came off the end of the production line" on Jan 10, 1949. Letter is in the groups photos area at: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/mg-tabc/photos/photostream/lightbox/803513405?orderBy=mtime&sortOrder=desc&photoFilter=ALL#zax/803513405 So there appears to be a difference between "build date" and coming off the production line (assuming the records on the T Register site are correct).  As Sherrell states, he has seen three different sets of build date files that vary by about 100 per year.  Maybe one of those are "Off the end of production line" figures, vs start of production line. I would assume the chassis was commissioned (number stamped) on 23rd December then it would have been left until the new year and completed then. Maybe the 10th Jan was a shipping date rather than a completion date. It was practice to park completed cars in a car park and take them to dealerships when required.
