Just for grins, what is a ballpark figure for shipping a TB to the UK from USA?  I assume an East coast shipping point would be cheaper than Gulf Coast.  What is the name of the event at Silverstone and date?  This may get very interesting.Tim BloomfieldTB0613Louisiana Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

I was last at Silverstone many years ago!  Unfortunately probably not in the cards for me- so perhaps we can organize one in the states too.   Sent from my iPhone On Oct 10, 2017, at 6:27 PM, Roger Furneaux roger.46tc@gmail.com [mg-tabc] mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> wrote:   hi Jeff - sounds like a good idea, although the big event to tag onto would be MGCC Silverstone (or wherever the club might have moved to). We could arrange for a section of the Register parking area to be TB only. Other Registers have organised runs into Silverstone, often from several starting points, but perhaps one would be enough due to lower numbers. I could join in with TC0978, which has a cylinder head with casting date of May 1939, but I do have a TB chassis in the barn (available to anyone who wants to build a car for the event...) ocTagonally Roger On Tue, Oct 10, 2017 at 5:42 PM, jeffrey townsend jeff.townsend@hotmail.co.uk [mg-tabc] mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> wrote:   Hi to all TB owners It has been proposed to hold some sort of event in 2019 to commemorate the 80th birthday of the TB, could any TB owner interested please contact either   Jeff Townsend on              jeff.townsend@hotmail.co.uk                                   Or Mike Inglehearn on           mingle54@btinternet.com   Perhaps you could also express your opinion / suggestions as to what type of event you would prefer it should be such as         A stand alone event for the TB         Tagged on to another  T Type event         Tagged on to some other event         A one day event         A weekend event         Any other suggestions   Some ideas of other events might be a Shuttleworth collection flying day, a wings and wheels event, a 40s weekend event, a classic car event or perhaps you can suggest some other event. Hi All- Met Roger Aumann who owns a '39 TB, former police car, at the Fall Portland ABFM over the Columbia River Classic race weekend at Portland International Raceway.  He finished the restoration of the TB recently and it's a very nice one.  A credit to those who assisted with the work.  I believe he may have won a Peoples' Choice trophy.   Also, there is a TB for sale in the latest issue of TSO.  So all of a sudden, they are out there!!  Would be very interesting to see a gathering of TBs in the States.  Great idea...... I brought a J2 over this past February from the UK to Port Newark, Roll on Roll off. One way with insurance was over a grand. In 1990, we shipped 89 cars for the COB from Newark to Liverpool for $600, roundtrip but that was a gift from Willaniaus Lines who wanted the publicity. Don t forget you will need liability insurance in the UK or France if you want to drive the car. This can be difficult and expensive to arrange.

Do you mean that in the States, you don t have to have your car insured for the damages you can cause to others ?
Then, in case of an accident, your insurance pays the victim, people or thing.
When insured, we receive a free Green card, nothing to pay for it, and we are covered abroad against the same risk
that are covered in France.

If we want, we are free to insure more (all risks, including the damages to ourselves) but it is not compulsory.
Although I ll probably never drive in the States, can it be different with you ?

Jean, in most states in the US, (I am not certain of any exceptions) you must carry liability insurance to drive and register your car. However, most insurance policies limit the coverage to the USA and Canada. Special coverage is needed in most cases to drive into Mexico. An American policy does not cover UK and Europe, and you do not get a green card. European countries operate, I believe, under a mutual convention with rules and regulations which the American companies are not part of.

My experience with this problem is dated back to 1990. As the organizer of the COB for the NEMGTR trip to the UK, the insurance problem was the hardest to overcome .It almost jeopardized the trip . Think about it, would you as an insurance company want to take the risk of insuring 89 American cars for just three weeks in the UK where almost all the cars are left hand drives, and the drivers having their first experience with driving on the left? I could see the problem We were only able to get coverage at the last minute, and then, only through the efforts of a UK member who had an insurance agency. Without it we would never had been allowed to leave the docks.

They're isn't such a need for international insurance coverage in the United States because we are only bordered by two countries and most policies cover those countries already.  In Europe, you can drive through several countries in one day so you need it.  If someone puts a car on a ship from the USA to Europe, appropriate coverage is available.  However there is no need for us to pay higher premiums for coverage very few would ever use.

Does anyone have an accurate reading as to how many MGTB's have actually found a home in the USA? We should try to get an accurate count. In 2006 the New England MGT Register listed 34 TB s in the US and Canada and 4 outside North America. These were of course Register members at that time. No idea of other cars owned by nonmembers. Hope this helps.
