I belong to a Porsch 914 club. Absolutely the Dullest. Our club has personality and vitality Plus. I truly enjoy every E-mail- with no holds barred. We are not ,thank God, politcally correct. In Total agreement with the Badger; I relive my young days and the MG TC is my time machine back to the future-1948. Lets Roll. Tally Ho! Thom Collins

----- Original Message ----- From: "Ross MacPherson" arm@telus.net> > > Sorry Jim but I just don't have the time to wade through the piles of dross > our list is generating lately. Sorry you feel that way about it Ross. As an enthusiast of several types of cars, and not just the MG-micro-world, I am far more interested in the people aspect of it all. Versus the strictly technical side. I disagree with the comment posted earlier that proposed that; merely by having an interest in vintage MG's, makes for them being: "great people". I've run across plenty of self-absorbed egotists in the vintage MG world. I've also learned volumns from guys who have played with these cars for years. (My TC was already 13 years old when I was born. My TD was 6) While we bid you goodbye, Ross, there will still be tons of great; good; and marginal, information and opinions presented here. I encourage the remaining members to share whatever experience, and knowledge they have with us. I for one look forward to it with an open mind, and anticipation of learning much more than I know from 28 years of playing around the cars. "Lighten up Francis" Let's just enjoy the ride... Hello Carl, Well said. Carol and I exited the list several months ago for this problem and the preponderance of virus attachments that kept creeping in. After an appropriate 'cool-down' period, we re-entered the list, as there is a lot of VALUABLE information contained within the postings among the banter (all in good fun for those bantering). For those of us that don't want to read the banter, the delete key does still work -- lighten up and enjoy our wonderful preservation hobby.BTW, thanks to the information gleaned here, EBay and especially Wayne Snook and Neil of the NE Florida MG Club, "Molly", our 1948 MGTC is on the road and doing well, the first time she's been running in over 28 years! Molly was born in September, 1948 and belonged to a wonderful gentleman in Liverpool until she was adopted by a US serviceman stationed in England. He brought her back to CA and began a restoration, but alas, gave up on her after doing the overhaul and painting. She now sports a new upholstery and top and runs very nicely and will be in her premiere outing the second weekend in April 2002 at the GOF in Sebring Florida! Hope to see a lot of you there! The Celebrated Mr. B., Erudite and forthright as per usual. Long may your sett be hallowed! David Lodge BADGER wrote:
Of course it's a chat room Austin. That is, it's a bunch of guys who love cars getting together over a couple of virtual beers. How the Hell can you imagine that the world's longest marathon game of MG Trivial Pursuit could possibly be tolerable without anyone ever cracking a smile or poking fun or expressing an opinion contrary to your own rigid one. I am far more heavily involved in cars (not just MGs) than 95% of you other guys, I've shown cars at Pebble Beach, I vintage raced for years, I owned and operated a restoration shop for years. I've owned them all and driven them all from W.O. Bentleys to many Aston Martins, a hundred or more MGs, Bugattis, Ferraris, Maseratis, Rolls Royce, Alvis, Etc. Etc. Etc. and I gotta tell ya guys, it really ain't about what color your header tank is or how many holes you have in your firewall. It's about the wind in your hair, and enjoying life, and laughter, and a little glimpse of the world through a windscreen of 50 years ago. It's about freedom and sex - yes, that's right, freedom - and - sex because, for many (most) (all) of us, that's exactly what these cars symbolized way back when we where 16 and 17 - and they still do (or should!). An old car, like life, like sex is inherently imperfect and anyone who can't just lay back and enjoy it for what it is without nit-picking it half to death or enjoy a chuckle without notifying the "bullshit police" is just another old fart ready for "the home". I do know what it's all about. For many of you guys, these cars represent one's own youth or, more accurately, they are a monument dedicated to one's own youth and therefore they must be "perfect" in every detail and deadly serious like most mausoleum statuary. Hey, do what you want pal but I'm gonna say what I want so don't give me no crap about "bullshit police". Badger, Still crazy after all these years. ----- Original Message ----- From:lazybear@alum.mit.edu To:FDShade@aol.com ; arm@telus.net Cc:mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, March 13, 2002 2:31 AM Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] I can't take it anymore.... Can't say some of didn't see it coming, Ross. I couldn't agree with you more. This was never intended as a "chat room", and some of us are just barely hanging on. We need a "bullshit police" more than we need the bullshit, in my not-so-humble opinion. I'll be on vacation for ten days, with a 2-1/2 lb. lead hammer resting on my delete key. Austin
Absolutely This E-mail list, it seems to me, replicates a light hearted conversation rather than a technical symposium, and like most conversation will contain stimulating chat, interesting detail and the usual boring bits; that's life I think. FW: [mg-tabc] I can't take it anymore....
THIS MAIL IS 25 LINES LONG AND CARRIES NO PREVIOUS MESSAGES
Dear Members,
Just want to tell you I am enjoying this list tremendously,
save dry eyes, stiff neck and lost sleep, sometimes.
Let us get back to the fundamentals.
This is a virtual club life, for the members near and afar,
often thousands of miles apart, with differrent backgrounds,
professions. languages and cultures...
There are lectures, debates, information and chats.
We have artisans, mechanics, cynics and dreamers,
Wise Men (at least one of them in disguise of an animal) and
wise guys. All sorts of humo(u)rs, too.
Yes, there are sometimes rude quips and uncomfortable moments
but we always have the delete key or time to sit down and talk.
You can have all this for owning one or more of MG-TABC.
Wouldn't it be wonderful?
It so happens that this year marks the 40th anniversary of our
marriage and my first MG (a TF) ownership. I bought the previous
B Type and the present TC mostly "For Sentimental Reasons" and
I do enjoy "the glimpse of the world through the windshield of
50 years ago".
Happy Motoring,
Rick Hara
TC 6903
Japan
P.S. I think the use of certain words are bad manners and degrading
to the person who writes those words as well as to the club.
