Side Curtains

Post by Allan Chalmers » Mon Sep 19, 2005 8:46 pm

As TA Terry knows, I only use my side curtains on the 250 mile run to get to the TC Motoring Guild, Abingdon Rough Riders annual gathering halfway across California. Anyone willingly being buffetted by side winds for 500 miles is a true masochist. Terry, on the other hand, does this run with windshield folded. Then again, I went along with him on a four day jaunt to a Colorado GoF thru 100 degree temperatures without benefit of windshield, so who's the fool? Southern English is a finely wrot language with many subtleties not appreciated by many. So a little explanation is in order: "Naked" means you have no clothes on. "Nekkid" means you have no clothes on.......and you are up to something! Best, Ray "Spes mea in Deo est"

Hey Steve, Have just drove to work in the rain this morning (top up & no side curtains) did not get wet! I did have a towel over my right leg, and another one handy. Of course the TC got a complete wipe down and was parked inside the building at work! As long as you are moving the rain is no bother really. It's when you stop and the wind blows it in on you that is the problem. Cheers, TC 6551 Rainy Southern CA. -----Original Message----- From: mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com [mailto:mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com]On Behalf Of Ron Simon Sent: Monday, September 19, 2005 5:45 PM To: websim@pacbell.net; mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Subject: [mg-tabc] side curtains Steve, The only times we used our side curtains was on the two GRAB trips to England and the GRANE trip to NEW England. Even then in pouring rain I couldn't drive with all curtains in place. The TC became a sauna and I had to take out the drivers curtain to be able to see out. However, I had to put it back in when we parked the car to protect the interior from rain. Since we made those trips, I can't remember using them here in California. That includes driving in rain top down,(As long as we kept moving),or top up with no curtains. Ron Simon __________________________________ Yahoo! You're getting close to the solution Dave. Use the same tactic to stay dry without top or sidecurtains and to keep the engine cool: Go fast, Don't stop. Dick TC 5905, TA2645 North Carolina [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hey, Dave, "Of course the TC got a complete wipe down" Did you check the bottom of the side curtain compartment? After a 100 mile drive in the rain with top up and no side curtains, we did the wipe down you describe. Then, it occurred to me to check the side curtain compartment. Soaked. Now, we carry a small tarp the neatly fits the rear compartment. Still haven't fitted the side curtains to the car. _Peter

Side curtains

If it was me. . . and it has been. First discover the special nesting to make the side curtains fit. . . Then make a bag to contain them as a group, OR Place shop towels or old terry towels between each layer (then you have them for emergencies. . like mopping the seat because the top and side curtains weren't up when you went into the restaurant to eat.) The side curtains are not folded in the compartment but it takes a special stacking to fit them. . . Once you know how it is not difficult. . . We found putting the side curtains up when its cold improves the comfort of the persons inside. . even without the hood up. . . All the heat from the transmission tunnel warms your legs quite satisfactorily. For the newbies" Hood = top Bonnet = hood (over the engine.) My solution. . .keep top down, drive faster and wear a rain coat. You won't be any wetter or any colder. . .Sally ---------- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
