Ken - I left the NEMGTR last year for precisely this type of attitude. I really don't know why I stayed for the 25 or so years I belonged, since I learned so much from special people in groups such as TABC's and the TCMG, and the Vintage Group from S. Calif.

Geoff: I belong to the Octagon Car Club. Their magazine and spares availability is second to none. All T & MMM owners should be a member of this organization. Ken TC 4147 Geoff Love wrote:

One of the things that I've never understood, is why we have to purchase the membership roster of the New England MG T Register. Shouldn't it be included in the membership costs? John Seim Irvine, CA TC 6590

Thanks for the plug for the VINTAGE MG CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. We are an active group of 200 members with events at least once a month besides victuals sessions and meetings. There is usually a Tech session on Saturdays, too. You have a T Series car and a problem, there are many people who don't claim to be experts, but they certainly are; who will be ready to help! Bob, the Librarian Oh! , Yes, we have a Library with over 200 books, and a 'Jillion ' magazines........ Definition of 'Jillion': Too many to count and about half of them uncataloged. BUT! you are free to look through as long as you sort as you go. Join now, and come to our Christmas Party. Bob McKarney wrote:

John, my copy is generally brought to meetings as part of the Library and no one looks at it, so why send it to a thousand members who also won't look at it or they will complain that NEMGTR should cut costs and not send it to youall. BOB "John T. Seim" wrote:

hi Gene - as confirmed by others this CD was not proceeded with, but the excuse given at the time was that the company contracted to produce it underestimated the time it would have taken to scan all the issues. But why not collect the originals? I managed to get hold of almost every copy (although the very early ones are copies) and I live in England! All came from the States and did not cost a fortune (in some cases free - thanks again to Bill Hentzen). I am putting the index into electronic form, although the NEMGTR has probably already done this. ocTagonally Roger

Here we go, bashing the NEMGTR again. I have it on extremely good authority that it was going to cost way more money to put that index together than they originally expected, so they dropped it. Obviously the only people who could have used it would have been Register members who had collected TSOs. The April 1989 issue has an index of all technical articles up to that date, and I believe that there was an update at some point after that. The reason that you have to pay for their Membership Directory, is because it is published by the Harris Publishing Company, who are the people who sell it. Heather and I have been members of the NEMGTR since 1985, and the reason that are we are still members is that their events have given us the opportunity to meet many wonderful M.G. people from all over the US and Canada. Join , don't join, or quit, it's up to you, but please QUIT GRIPING. The NEMGTR has done more for T-series owners in North America than any other organization, and I would suggest that if it weren't for them, this list probably wouldn't exist. If you are a member we hope to see you at the GOF at Wolfville Nova Scotia in July. Well that's my two cents anyway. Mark Evenchick

This list "wouldn't exist" without NEMGTR? I'm sure many of those who manage, contribute to and enjoy this list would think quite differently. Perhaps some don't recognize the crushing reality that NEMGTR is quite provincial and has limited relevance to much of the worldwide MG community. Certainly, when I was living in California most of the content of the "Sacred Octagon" had little bearing on our interest or activities. Although it was nice to be able to support fellow octaphiles and to keep in touch with the eastern US scene. The technical material was always interesting and helpful if sometimes not quite "cutting edge". Please, let us take each offering for what it is and not try to place the Crown too carelessly.
