Andreas the original front pulley on t series is cast iron , but I had seen repros years ago made of aluminum, and I used to install a cast iron surface onto the seal area as the rope ate it away. Joe Curto

The lip seal is a definite improvement over the rope seal. However, the pulley must be in good condition, as it is what the seal seals against. It cannot be cracked, which occurs above the slotted keyway. Part number for Chicago Rawhide is CR 14005. Other manufacturers also make this lip seal. A bearing and seal parts house can order you one. Dimensions are 36mm x 47mm x 7mm. John Seim Irvine, CA

I have used the lip seal with good success. If concerned about wear on the pulley, fit a CR Speedi-sleeve. Bob Okay, no aluminium...but anyway, the surface of the pulley is so soft that there will be a cut from the eal lip - have tried it and go for the "asbestos" string again. Andreas
