Like Joe Potter, I recently changed from a Judson J 26 to the new Moss unit. It looks great and I agree that it is a well thought out unit.. I modified the manifold by drilling and taping 1/8" NPT to connect a boost gauge which I sourced from John Marks-It matches the TC gauges and works well.. I am running 6-9# boost. I believe that this unit is an Eaton M-45- modified by Magnuson. This blower is "bullet proof" in larger sizes it's used by GM, Jaguar, etc.and offered in kit form for lots of cars. Incidently I have a M4-5 for sale on ebay that I was planning to use before Moss came out with their unit. I had a local foundry cast some copys of a Manifold from a TC racer special. It was an interesting project but not worth the trouble. Moss has it right with this Supercharger kit. I run blowers on 2 MMM cars, a Centrics side mounted on PA 1510 and a nose mounted Volumex on L0414. I believe that Supercharging really improves the drivability of our cars.. Thanks, tom Poole

Tom Get the new Moss unit that Skip Kelsey sells. Its bullet proof and since its manufactured in California, it has lots of chrome. Actually it has no chrome and looks similar to units of the period. You will need to run good quality fuel and I run an octane booster as well. The timing will need to be accurately verified to avoid detonation. Tom, I am sorry that if my narative in an earlier message, suggested that there was anything wrong with putting on a suppercharger a TC, nor painting a TC brown. If it weren't for the expense, I probably would have a blower on my TC. And one of the prettiest TC's I have seen was Jim Bigler's (and there is a name from the past) brown TC and vowed if I ever did up another TC, I would seriously consider that. While I also did not infer that chroming the underside of the wings or putting on white walls was wrong either, I personally don't like that and would not do that to my TC, but to each to his/her own. I am not a die hard purist. I love seeing tasteful variations. My reason for jumping into the thread was to mainly state that if a particular TABC had survived to date by remaining nicely original (original paint, upholstery, etc), that it would be a shame to destroy the historic patina even if somewhat worn. Granted that if the original paint, upholstery, etc is in very, very poor condition then maybe it is time to redo. David Edgar, TC 5108 (without original patina but with 25+ years of post restoration patina now)

I have no problem, only envy. All it takes is money and time. If the next owner doesn't like it, the operation is easily reversed, especially if you keep the replaced parts and pass them on. David Edgar, TC5108 El Cajon, California

Tom I purchased my TC some 3years ago and it has a Shorrock 75b Blower I was somewhat apprehensive as I was only previously conversant with SUs However it has now done 10000 miles with no trouble I get 25 mpg around town and 32 mpg on a run. Brown & Gammons when rebuilding my rear axle suggested a ford 3.9 diff (to match the ford half shafts)which gives me very relaxed 70 mph motorway cruising at aroung 3500 revs but because of the Blower the acceleration is still OK. although early use of the gearbox is required in hilly terrain! The boost is only a maximum of 5lbs as shown on the guage.and I top up the oil in the drive shaft at about every 1000miles. I assume the pressure at the oiler pin would be the same as at the oil guage( to answer another point raised on the list) The only drawback I have noticed is the excess noise through the exhaust under heavy acceleration!! In short go for it and enjoy the extra oomph. Paul TC 3348 MGB

NO-no! Blowers have been part of MG-ing almost from the beginning! Lots of kidding though from those of us who want one! I may have to build a TC engine up for the TB in order to put one onto the car! Best, Ray

Superchargers

Post by Al Moss » Mon Feb 04, 2002 6:32 pm

Greetings to those who read my recent letter about my supercharger installation. This was not intended to be a plug for Moss Motors--merely my personal experience of installing their kit. I mentioned that I spent several days modifying the carb linkage and fuel feed to my satisfaction. This is not to infer that there is anything wrong with their kit. I bought my blower sans carburettor and built up my own and made the mods to suit my desires. Thanks to those of you who requested pics of my installation and who responded with kind comments. For those of you who spent time downloading the pics and were unhappy--tough. I had no way of knowing that this was the wrong thing for me to do. al moss

hi all - John Bibby moved some time ago and is now at: Supercharger Services, 72 Feiashall Road (hope thats the correct spelling!), Trysull, Staffordshire, WV5 7HT, UK. tel: +44(0)1902 324545, FAX +44(0)1902 324546, email supercharger_services@yahoo.co.uk He can probably help with most types of blower. Some while ago I was sent an Argentine magazine which featured a J4 replica made from a TC chassis, complete with "period" blower (I think it was a Marshall) mounted between the front dumbirons. The most intriguing part of the story was that it had been made from scratch in Argentina. And if it was cast, then patterns were required, which could be used to make more... happy MotorinG !
>Someone from the UK might help, there is a fellow in Wales that >refurbishes blower also, name is John Bibby, might be spelling the last >name wrong. Contact him, he might have something that is original for >the time period. Best of Luck Dean
