Headlight Focus

I am putting my headlights together on my TC. I have read instructions on how
to focus the lights by moving the light and socket in the reflector until you
have a solid beam with no dark center spot.
Is there a simpler way to accomplish the focus (such as a simple measurement
from the base of the bulb to the reflector) instead of the above process?
