Layshaft bearings

Post by Jennifer and Hugh Pite » Tue Mar 14, 2000 6:26 pm

I have a cluster gear that has very pitted bearing surfaces. Has anyone any
thoughts on the possibility of pressing in bronze bushings to replace the
needle rollers? I know the factory did this in the Morris 10 trans which is
very similiar to the TC trans. How about the problem with lubrication along
the length of the bushing?

Hi Hugh,
Just a thought, you may be able to have the cluster gear
internally ground to take 5mm needle rollers instead of the
existing 3/16". This would remove about 0.0093", which
may break through the case hardening. If that is the case
then the internal bore could be opened up even more and
hardened sleeves inserted for the needle rollers to run in.
