clarification on 10 & 8 mm bolts

Post by Mick Conde » Sun Aug 28, 2005 11:43 am

Group- For several years now I have been keeping all the original bolts from T-series & pre-war cars. I guess I have a question that needs resolved. The two bolts that secure the rocker ass'y on XPAG are 10 & 8 mm 'Auto' - that part is OK. The part that needs revoleved is the 'D' &/or 'R' . I have always assumed that the difference was GRADE. When I started looking closer I have found the factory used either D or R on this ass'y, any insight on this ? Should I then assume that the D &/or R refers to a 'supplier, not the grade. If this subject HAS been covered already, then sorry I did miss it !! mick

The "D" and "R" are British grade markings from that period. The
comparison table I have doesn't show "D", but here are rough US and DIN
equivalents of others:

BS US DIN
R 3 6.8
S 5 8.8
V 8 10.9
X 12.9
