Dear venerables
The front wings for my TA I'm putting together have only three holes in the
area that the sidelights and wing stay are mounted - and these three holes
line up with the three holes in the bottom of the sidelight (i.e. two for
the mounting studs and one for the electrics).
Shouldn't there be a fourth hole - this being to take the bolt that fastens
the wing to the wing stay? My wing stays line up with the front sidelight
hole - but surely the sidelight isn't an integral part of the structure - is
it?
If there is a fourth hole, then where is it in relation to the other three?
Many thanks
Richard

Re: Side lights and wing stays
Hi Richard, (who asked, "Shouldn't there be a fourth hole?")
Three holes it is, see some previous messages on this subject below:
3 holes are correct, not 4.
Front one - bolt thru support etc. as you described
Middle one - for the wire(s) which exit the support stay near the top
Rear one - to hold the light in place - bult thu from underneath
Fill fourth hole.

Two 1/4" BSF bolts, front one goes through fender brace, steel pad, pad
rubber, fender, light pad rubber, light and screws into the inner light
socket base. Approx length 1", maybe a bit less.
Rear bolt goes through steel pad, pad rubber, fender, light rubber, light
and screws into light socket base. Length about 3/4" or less.

Thanks to everyone that responded to my question on the TC sidelight
and wing fitting.
You have confirmed what I suspected, in that the sidelight bolts
through the wing brace and the fourth hole is surplus, possibly
drilled by a previous owner for a mirror.
I still don't feel happy with the screw fixing into the bulb holder
this dosn't just hold the sidelight in place, it also clamps the top
of the wing firmly to the wingbrace. I think I will take up Eric
Worpe's suggestion of putting a screw through the bulb holder from
the top with a nut under the wing brace, if I can find a screw with a
head that won't interfere with the bulb.
As for the small torpedo shaped plate they are listed in the Moss
catalogue as part No. 261-055. My car only had one but I won't be
buying one from Moss as it is easy to make from 2mm thick plate. I am
lucky enough to have a pattern but the size and shape is the same as
the rubber pads that should go under the sidelight.
