Petrol? Education? Pontiac
Sorry not really TC matter: Please do not read! and complaint.
Hi Joe,
An old story about a Pontiac came to my mind. In our town there was
a good lawyer with a 1951 Pontiac. Of course he had a driver. But he paid a
very low salary to him. So the driver pumped now and then few gallons of
petrol for his use from the Pontiac tank depending on the distance he
covered. After a year or two the driver left the job for another better paid
job. Now the lawyer got a new driver. He was more honest. The lawyer was
filling the fuel tank as usual. But after few days the new driver reported
that either the tank is full or the fuel gage is wrong. So the car was sent
to my dad's garage for engine check tuning and also with special request to
pay attention to fuel gauge. We checked the tank and it was full. We pumped
out the fuel and watched the gauge. It was reading correct. So we did the
normal engine tuning with new spark plugs new contacts, cleaned the air
filter and carburettor, changed the engine oil etc.
In the evening when the lawyer came to pick up the car our foreman reported
that the engine is tuned well. Now it must give a better mileage than
before. The foreman also reported that the fuel gauge is set correct. So I
( young boy ) ran around and asked the foreman about the matter. He told me
that we can not report to him that his driver was stealing petrol. In this
case the lawyer will report the matter to the new employer of the old
driver. The old driver will lose his job. He will be angry about our garage
and we may loose few customers in the future. That is the reason why our
foreman solved the matter this way.
So this is Pontiac customer service lesson I leaned from our foreman. This
can never happen with our MG TC with a small tank and self driving.

I too have a gas price sign from about 1967 23 cent per gallon, 10
cent fed sales tax, and 1 3/4 cent city tax. When I was in High school in
1967 I
used to tank up the TD with 10 gallons of gas fro 2.80 cent /28 cent a
gallon,
My pops had a Pontiac StarChief with about a 25 gallon tank, and without
embarrassment you would ask fro 3 dollars worth of gas and get almost a 1/2
tank.
