Protection

Listers, As I move steadily towards getting TC 2481 on the road, I wonder about front and rear protection. I have yet to see a photo of a British owned TC with any kind of bumpers. When the previous owner of 2481 brought it back from England in 1956, he installed chrome "blade" bumpers which really mess up the beautiful TC front and rear ends. Besides their needing to be rechromed, I don't want to re-install them. My previous TC, a 1948, which I owned in the late 50"s when I was in college, had a pair of what I remember were called nerf bars front and rear. While I never tested their effectiveness, which I suspect is marginal, they at least provide a minimum level of protection. When back on the road this summer TC 2481 will be driven regularly and I feel a need for some level of protection, especially given that its wings are remarkably original and sound. What, if anything, do other T-abc owners do? Does anyone know a source for nerf bars? I noticed that Moss Motors' new catalog shows two TCs with the bars, but doesn't seem to sell them. TCs sold in Vancouver in the 40s were often equipped with very nice "nerf" bars made by a local spring shop, I believe. These bars were about 1" round stock, and attached, at the front, under the dampers, using longer damper bolts, and of course, omitting the steel plates under the damper bodies. At the rear, they attached to the side of the rear frame rails. These bars were much heavier than the ones sold by Moss under the name antenna bumpers, and they are still seen on many local TCs. -Rick jones/pike hhjthp@iglou.com> wrote: Listers, As I move steadily towards getting TC 2481 on the road, I wonder about front and rear protection.
