M-Type wheel hubs

Post by Russel Hertzog » Fri Feb 22, 2019 5:06 pm

My son and I need some (up to 4) late M-Type wheel hubs for a race car we have prepared. The later-car hubs are a little stronger. Regards, Russ Sent from my iPhone

When I was racing my M Type there were regular problems associated with increased engine power. This will apply to Developed T Types as the engine power and driving stresses increase with performance development. The first was when the prop shaft fabric couplings failed - Hardy Spicers solved that. The diff casing (Aluminium) is not up to the job and failed, a period Morris steel one cured that. The rocker shafts, unsupported at the rear and valves with stiffer springs, broke at high revs and had to be supported. The three speed box was useless and was replaced with the four speed option. There were lots of other development issues before the car became a regular winner of VSCC and MGCC races and hill climbs. But to get to the point, after an engine rebuild with Pheonix cranks rods etc and a new well modified cylinder head, giving way above the normal M Type output, my most embarrassing failure was on the start line at Silverstone when the flag dropped and everyone accelerated away bar me, due to all the spokes pulling out of the rear hubs ~they were new wheels and late pattern hubs too, Conversion to J/P Type wheels and splined hubs followed soon after. ! So I'd suggest that you look to keeping the M Type wheels/hubs at the front, with 400x19 tyres, (Bigger 450s did not work at the front) but use J, P, T ABC splined hubs and wheels at the rear with 4.50 x 19s.
