TC5112 Bumpers and other details
Greetings to all, This car, TC5112, 24 Mar 1948 offers many transitional details to originality. There were many productions changes that occurred with the TC in early 1948. These were not all done on 1 day but phased in as supply diminished. Typically from @ TC4800 – TC5500. TC5112 shows some of these examples. Bumpers & Foglamp: I believe these are bumpers added by Innskip MG dealer from NY. I would like others to comment. It is interesting to note that the last TC sales brochure (colored pages) shows a TC with Texas State fair Queen in parade with same bumpers in Dallas. Sales brochure was late 1948 so that was an imported car to the US that had the Innskip bumpers. Also note in the same photo, the foglamp was on the right side same as TC5112 indicating export configuration and not a home model. (NOTE: I have a very nice set of these bumpers available if anyone is interested. I also have the colored sales brochure for sale.) Scuttle: Early & Grey Color – Note the scuttle has the deep flutes and light Grey. These are early and correct yet to be changed to body color scuttle. Engine Color: early medium grey correct. Later would change to red. Dash: This is one of very first rexine dashes but still has the black control panel and not the gold panel which came slightly later. Generator Pulley: Early cast iron pulley correct and changed on later TCs to alloy. The above changes are also noted in Mike Sherrell’s TCs Forever. (I have copies of his as well if needed.) Probably other details I have missed. Would welcome further comment.
