Re: Rebuilding fuel pump

This past winter I rebuilt several old fuel pumps I had.  Must have done something wrong, as only 1 of the 3 pump gas in a "pump from one jug to another" test.  I know the hardware is all properly located - no backwards or misplaced valves etc...   But there are two points of concern:      1.  The SU book says nothing about tensioning the diaphragm when tightening down the perimeter screws.  Yet I know I've read somewhere that the center piece of the points should be wedged up to pre-tension the diaphragm when assembling the base to the body/new diaphragm.          what's the right answer on that?      2.  does the electromagnet in the body ever go bad?  Does anybody measure the resistance hot/cold?   thanks. phil  From: "Steve S mail@mgnuts.com [mg-tabc]" mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> [b]To:[/b] 'MGTABC GROUP' mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com> [b]Sent:[/b] Monday, June 18, 2018 12:57 PM [b]Subject:[/b] Re: RE: [mg-tabc] Electrical Fuel Pump   I fitted an electronic conversion SU from a well known rebuilder to an MGB, and it didn't last.  Points pumps have proven very reliable for me. I have them fitted to four cars including my daily driver. The one in my TC has been in there since 1980 with no maintenance and is still going strong, although I'm sensing it's time for a rebuild. - Steve Simmons, TC8975
