K&N Filter

Post by brian bax » Wed Jun 12, 2002 2:13 pm

Hello Thom, I have fitted the K&N air filter. While it was apart I made another canister without the air slots but permitting cooler air to enter the front face via a short length of ducting. On a 200 mile roadtest the engine felt much more torquey with this setup and now has no hot starting problems. Regards Brian

Brian, I am not following what you did with the air cleaner. Do you have a picture, drawing or better descripiton that you could send me or have posted on the TABC or Yahoo site? I am quited interested in doing something air cleaner wise and I am sure others are as well. Thank you, David Edgar, TC 5108 El Cajon, California

Hi Guys (and Ladies), I got one of the K&N filters in the post today, and plan to fit it to the TB tomorrow. This should be a VERY simple trick. The filter is smaller in diameter at the bottom, and tapers to an even smaller top. The top is sealed with a chrome plate (a hole will have to be drilled in this so that the pass through stud can hold the top of the stock replacement filter in position. The bottom of the filter is made so as to fit over a lip- like the one on the bottom of the filter canister. The K&N filter will be fully enclosed by the original housing. Photos tomorrow!! Best, Ray

Hello David, The K&N filter fits straight into the repro air filter canister with no modifications apart from a small hole for the centre stud. To obtain a cool air feed I made a new canister deleting the air slots but with an aperture in the "front face" to accept a 12" length of ducting running from the top right hand of the radiator in the region of the headlamp stay where on my car there is a gap permitting entry of cool air. Here in the UK the ducting I used is from a Rover Metro car. It is made of a woven material and has a vintage appearance. One end has a flange for easy fitment to the canister. The improvement in running is very noticeable. Hope this helps, Brian.> -----Original Message-----

Has anybody fitted a modern air cleaner element into an original TC air cleaner? If so, how? I don't have a repro filter. Bob Grunau The K&N filter fits straight into the repro air filter canister with no modifications apart from a small hole for the centre stud. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
