List content - Loud Pub
Thanks Bill, Terry and especially Mike,
Now listen up you Whitworth Heads,
Excessive off-topic commentary is getting to be a drag. Don't you bull
shitters have a garage to clean up? Get your fingers greasy more often and
keep them off the key board until you can help someone or need advise. As
much as we all enjoy pub chatter from time to time, this forum simply does
not support the atmosphere nor serves the libation to really pull it off
successfully. Its getting to be like a very loud pub.
I too am about to retreat after three or four years of diminishing returns.
All of us have the drastic option to elect no delivery by Yahoo, while
retaining the privilege of reading and sending mail from this group's web
site. Possibly Jim or Chip could instruct the membership on this. By doing
this we could tap into this community of TABCers when we need them. But the
likelihood of extracting useful information in a noisy pub will diminish as
this process cascades. And we won't be around to contribute much, just
extract.
I've run a forum like this since 1999 on eGroups then Yahoo for Alfa
Giuliettas and Giulias and I control membership. I do not allow chatter.
Every message has to have useful Alfa content or an Alfa related inquiry.
Over three hundred members are happy about my policy. For Alfisti who need
to chit chat, they can participate on the Alfa-digest. Likewise there are
enough general MG sites around to serve our membership without a pub.
My observation is that once a forum such as this gets to be bigger than say
50 to 150, a mob mentality takes control unless control is exerted by the
owner. Walter provided that leadership in the beginning. But then the
number of members and the traffic became too expensive in time and money for
him to bother supporting and managing us. Either someone step up to be our
sergeant at arms, or in a couple of years this forum will be controlled by
the chattiest common denominator.
Bottom line, too much chatter will ruin what used to be a good thing.
Not so cheerful, Peter

I disagree with Wilkinson, and heartily agree with Card. I joined MG-TABC to
learn as much specific info as I can glean from fellow members, to share in
specific tips/advice re maintenance, upkeep, restoration, history, etc. I
did NOT join to be assaulted with meaningless garbage from guys that have
nothing better to do than clog the internet every day with gossip or
needling that has no relevance to the cars. If this continues, I'm outa
here. hbgandy@attbi.com>

Peter & All:
I concur wholeheartedly. Enough BS. Let's stick to what we joined for!

Hi Bill,
Thank you for your vote of confidence! However my time and allegiance are
already spread thin, and I have a day job to boot. Surely there are others
who are like minded who can serve this LIST. Jim Shade and Walter are
moderators who might be arm wrestled into doing this until they appoint
someone with a Germanic personality.
I should remind you that truncating the previous message (if longish) is
also a point of good form for participation.
Cheers, Peter
