Before I get kicked off the sight, Please accept my sincerest
apologies for "double posting" my message and sending an attachment as
well. It was embedded in the file unbeknownst to me and I did not know
it was there until it posted. Then I
could not remove it. I seem to have angered at least one member
Blake/Bullwinkel writes,
"Your little MG's might be cute, but I can't read one bit of the
message. Keep the background image to yourself and quite wasting
internet time and space with UNNECESSARY fluff."
I suppose a gentleman might concede that even the best of us make
mistakes at times. I work with computers for my living, which
sometimes means I have a multitude of file types and sound files
hanging around. Sometimes I trip over them, if you get my gist.
I think it is very important on the Internet to remember that
there is another human being on the other end of that "send" button. I
feel it's more
constructive to send a note of explanation to someone who didn't know
any better than blast him or her with an angry message.
I was under the impression that we were on this list in the hope
of sharing information and to help each other at times, so in that
spirit I will remind Blake/Bullwinkel that when you capitalize
something in type on the Internet it is the same as yelling.
I want to thank all of you who have been so kind and helpful
to me and I am truly sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused
you.
That fluff disturber,
Victoria Smith McKenna

Victoria
I didn't have any problem reading any of your messages: perhaps Bullwinkle
had just had a bad day.
1. Points gap
You need to look at the cam fitted in the distributor because it might have
been changed at some time. If the car still has the original type, which
looks like a square with rounded off corners, set gap to .010-.012. If the
thing looks like a square tin can that's been pressurised a bit so it has
sharp corners but bulging sides, that's the later type and requires
.014-.016 gap.
2. Plug gap - I'd use .025 for a normal short reach plug
3. The capacitor (condenser) was originally soldered to the base plate: I
believe they intended that you replace the the whole assembly. I don't know
if it's possible to get a replacement capacitor alone - perhaps others can
advise on this. If it is, by all means unsolder the old one and mount the
new one preferably using a screw, rather than soldering.
