Small round brass tags on arms were coded for car makers at manufacter.
87(MG) X(left) Y(right)
36/37 MG TA front 87-9-X or 87-9-Y rear 87-8-X or 87-8-Y
38/39 MG TA/TB 87-16-X 87-16-Y 87-17-X 87-17-Y
The 36/37 shocks had cotter pins attaching the arms to the shocks.
The 38/39 shocks had splined shafts and the arms were a press fit.
