Hello all,
Another reversible modification which would improve the handling of a TC would be to revert back to the tried and true MMM and TA/TB type of suspension with the TA/TB trunnions, and springs. This was a method that was available before the first TC obviously, and would enable the car to retain the original Bishop Cam Box provided it was in good order. For an even firmer ride the older style Luvax shocks could be used if desired. The ride will be harsh with less bounce but the handling will be improved. The TABC archives are full of other more modern ideas as we have traveled this road before many times !
Cheers,
John

Much easier to fit polyurethane bushes in place of rubber on the TC. Firms up the ride a lot. Use a heavier motorcycle fork oil for the shocks and you stiffen them up. I use #20 wt. for my race TC and road TC, works well. #30 would stiffen a bit more, if you think you need it. Much easier mods and no apparent deviation from stock. Messing about with sliding trunnions and Luvax shocks on a TC would be a big and expensive job. New springs, new trunnions, welding up rubber bush holes in the front of the chassis and new Luvax shocks, removing rear spring hangers and replacing with trunnions. Whew, a lot of expensive parts and work!!! For interest, I have a replacement new MG chassis for my 1936 TA-0652, this chassis has swing shackle holes for the front springs and sliding trunnions for the rear. Go figure. The replacement chassis was obtained in the late fifties. The car supposedly belonged to Skip Barber at some time in the early fifties. I have obtained sliding trunnion boxes for the front and will install these if and when I restore the car. The original TA chassis was apparently completely rusted due to wet storage and was scrapped. Regards, Bob Grunau -----Original Message-----

As a die hard purist, although I believe all that I said, I really would not do that to a TC but if some one else wanted to at least they would have a hybrid that could Have existed from 1945-1949. It has been said that the factory switched to shackles as they could not obtain the raw materials for the pre war set up in 1945. Glad you took me seriously and offered some more practical advice. Just tired of the modern box verses BC box war. Once drove my car daily even in NYC with the BC box...miss those days...handled fine. Cheers, John TB#0398
