Fw: Radiator colour
Hi Guys,
I forward this from a fellow with a extensive collection of Our Favorite
Car.....
This is regarding a post recently about the color of the TA, TB, and very
early post war TC cars, as well as other pre-war MG's.
Careful examination of old photos have led some to think that the header
tank is correctly painted a flat aluminum color..... This idea squares with
two spare radiators that reside in my spare parts area....one is a '38 TA
and the other is a TB or early TC radiator, I cannot be sure which. Both
radiators appear to be intact "as supplied" units.
This appears to be a correct assertion, Mr. C's book, and others
notwithstanding.
This may well tie in with some of the airplane emulation that took place
pre-war in the auto industry in England, or not. These tanks probably wound
up black all over from radiator shops simply spraying one color over the
entire radiator when it was rebuilt; remember that these were merely used
cars before they came to be icons of a sort.
This is not an "Originality Police" action, but it could be of more than
academic interest to some who wish to "concours" their car.
The writer is in Europe, so the syntax is a little different from US
"english" and British english.......
There is some redaction in order to de-identify so as not start the fires
again!
Best,
Ray

-----------------------------------------------------------------I did not
sleep very well last night.
Found some more silver coloured header tanks: "The Autocar" of October 17th
1947 has a raod test on a new TC. The headertank is silver. The angleplate
just under the tank where the brackets for the rods are attached is black.
I looked at 2 radiators I have in the warehouse. 1 is painted red, under
that is black, under that is silver.
The other has a silver headertank, or what is left of it.
I have pictures of ------, a --- owned by G------. His father had the car
new and it is never touched. It is a wonderfull -------- (color)---
(type)---.
The headertank is silver as well as well as the angle plates and rod
attachment brackets.
When I phoned G---- a minute ago he said that his radiator was black all the
way. I then asked him to go and have a look in the garage he returned to the
phone and said very surprised: B-------, you were right: the headertank is
flattish silver, I never realised that.
I have no clue as on what date or why the tanks were changed from black to
silver.
I will put a question on the MG site/pre war.
Regards
