Carl The patent plate is of course described in Sherrell. Reproductions are available from Abingdon Spares. For a perfect fit of the mitred-joint chrome/stainless trim for a TC, buy two sets of Moss TF trim. These have spoon ends [not correct for TC] but some pieces are longer than the TC ones and the longer pieces from the two TF sets can be cut for the correct mitred joints using a junior hacksaw and lots of patience. Wilmot -Breedon is a manufacturer of car accessories such as door latches, "flash" or badges hubcaps exterior door handles etc., according to my book ":Lucas First 100 years", they actually were a spin off of Lucas in the 1920s or so and either Wilmot or Breedon was a son in law of Joseph P. Hi All, Last night I spent a happy time with my grimy set of TA side screen frames and I can definately say that, contrary to what I said earlier, they have not got the countersunk mounting holes which I have on my TC. However they do seem to be the same shape as the TC ones - although I do now seem to remember reshaping one of the TC ones slightly to fit the shape of the hood frame properly. The two TA ones which I have are the same shape as each other but only one has any holes at all! My memory is not what it was but I seem to recall now that one of them (the one without the holes?) was contained within the two layers of Duck before I removed it to save further deterioration. This would suggest that it was done like that from new, although it was perhaps an after market item rather than a factory one? Also I see that I have two flap stiffeners (they can't touch you for it, honest)which are of round section, unlike the main s/screen frames which are flat and one extra which came from heaven knows where, which is of the same flat section. I'm not sure where this leaves us but the (hardly scientific) suggestion is that there could have been more than one supplier as has been suggested here previously. We mustn't forget that MGs were not luxury cars and the original build quality is somewhat variable - to say the least. Personally I prefer the look of the countersunk version to the exposed nuts (see comment earlier) though i'm sure that a completely hidden frame would be much neater (and a lot more work). I have a photo of the factory "assembly line" in '38 that appears to show, through a magnifying glass, nuts on the inside of the car that has a door open.
