"Original" means that the parts that were on the car when it left the factory are still on it. "Fully restored" means that the parts that are on the car have been repainted/refinished to make them look like new. These can be either original parts or replacement parts. If they are original parts, then the car is "original" AND "fully restored". No, not another go round of Semamtics 101 ! An "Original" collector car is intouched,as it left the factory, too good to restore and equal in some cases to the value of a "Restored" car. A "Restored" car that meets the specs of a car as built is a "Correct Restoration" Bob TC4956

"Originally restored" means it is now completely made in Japan, Taiwan, a few bits in Britain, some out of the US, Aussie and NZ content with German sparkplugs. All over-chromed and painted to a color somewhat reminiscent of what the factory might have used had sufficient recreational drugs been available. Entire vehicle is then polished with BS to a high gloss. "Ground up Restoration" usually means what it sounds like: a lot of the original car was ground up, swept up, and thrown out to be replaced by the aforementioned Taiwanese parts. Many thanks Ray for clearing those issues up for me. I now feel informed and enlightened. If I might only impose upon you for one more question, what is the exact meaning of the phrase "frame-off restoration", esp. when applied to a recently advertised Bugeye Sprite?

Pishtosh! That's easy. It is where the body shell of the rusted out Bugeye is bolted to a frame where it is free to rotate while being cut apart, so as to be renewed using the inevitable Chinese parts..... When the car has been cut into small pieces, the frame is unbolted from the remains. Hence, "frame off". Later comes the "frame on". I thought that meant a 240Z fame has been added to the steering box and brake drums in the 'restoration' process. The term should be 'body off' (of the frame) but as Gallager says."We use the phrase 'back and forth' How can you go back before you go forth?" I don't think 'original and 'fully restored' and mutually exclusive. Only one of them is exclusive. Like only one of the legs of a duck is different, the other is the same. Our language is full of inherent conflicts. PTH
