Tyres for TA/B/C

Richard, earlier this year I fitted a pair of 400/450 by 19 Michelin tyres to the front wheels of my TA, previously I had run Dunlop 450 by 19's.... The Michelin is a far superior tyre, the car steers better than ever, it dosn't follow road camber changes so much, grip in the wet is better and it has improved the handling... I have used Dunlops for quite a while, but have just acquired another pair of new Michelins for the rear. They are not easy to get hold of, I had to wait 3 months for the last pair. Apparently Michelin classic tyres are made by the Competitions department, and as they have just gone back into Formula 1 (and won the German GP last weekend!) they have less time and resources to spend on classic tyres... I have also fitted the same Michelin DR (Double Rivet) Tyres to the front of my TA and agree totally with Brian Rainbow (Hello Brian - we met at Silverstone). Handling is really good, especially with 550 x 16 radials on the back. I have Andre Hartford Shock Absorbers on the front set to medium and standard TC dampers on the back. Downhill on the Tulip Rally a few weeks ago no-one else (not even a Gull-wing Mercedes - OK, he was a wimp!") could keep up in the corners, especially in the wet. As Brian says, it is almost impossible to buy these now in any size - managed to get a set of 550/600 x 21 for the Lagonda last week and they were the very last DR's in Germany - called everyone in the UK before and no-one had any. How about a petition to Michelin? Hi Brian - good to have you back on line! I too was looking at these Michelins on many of the MMM cars at Silverstone, but a Belgian owner told me they are no longer made. A pity, if true, 'cos they really looked nice! My TC was laid up for 6 years at my parents place in the U.K. before I brought it to Canada. The front tyres - Firestones - were flat as pancakes; the rears - Michelin 5.50x 16, with Michelin inner tubes, most important I seem to remember - were still full of air, for what that's worth !
