-Tyre recommendation needed

Hello T Typers I was under the impression that tyre compound hardened with age and lack of use which must affect the car's handling. If this is the case then any change to new of whatever brand will be an improvement,as so many of our tyres stay on for years due to low mileage use. In the UK, I see Vintage Tyre Supplies (www.vintagetyres.com) have one called Waymaster available in our size. They will export, I think. Also there is one called Excelsior which is a Dunlop clone available from Northants Tyres (www.northantstyre.co.uk) Regards Richard Park Cheshire UK TA 1938

Chaps..... Can recommend Vintage Tyre Supplies (www.vintagetyres.com). As Richard says they will export and provide an excellent service. Its well worth a visit to their site as it provides a wealth of info. I order tyres from them for my TC here in Australia, and they were most helpful and had no dramas agreeing to my request to ship them to Italy for me (to catch a container heading to my business in Oz). Hi T-Typers, I drive the Waymaster Tyres in Size 4.75/5.00 at the rear axle. Not the best choice. At rainy condition the car drifting around every corner, at dry streets the tyres whistle at low speeds! At the front, I have the famous Puma Tyres fitted. Against my expectation, this nylon wheels had never problems with unbalance through longer parking or big wear. It will be very interesting, to hear the experience of other drivers. lozi (TC3762)

I have a sheet from British Leyland which shows how to figure out Miles per 100 RPM. It is to hard to write down, as there is a tire size chart (no 19) but I will fax or mail to serious inquires, there is a way to figure out for tire sizes other than on whats on the chart. Joe Curto

Vintage Tyre in Beaulieu in the UK prints an excellent, informative catalog on all Dunlop Tyres from ancient to modern. Included is info such as rev. per mile, actual OD etc. You may wish to get one as a reference. I strongly recommend them as a Tire/Tyre source as well. Hi lozi I'm glad someone else has had the same experience of Waymasters, I thought it was just me. I also have Waymasters (4.50x19) at the rear, with Excelsiors at the front. Since fitting them earlier this year I have had noticed exactly the same behaviour, with the rear tyres squealing on every single bend, at just about any speed. I have yet to experience the joys/terror of a wet road. I have experimented a little with tyre pressures and the level of grip does seem to be extremely sensitive to tyre pressure. Best to keep it at the high end of the range. Next weekend I plan to swap fronts and rears just to see what a slippery front end feels like. I don't think I could honestly recommend Waymasters to anyone. (At least I only paid half price for them!) By the way, I'm very happy indeed with the Excelsior tyres. Cheers, Dave Aberdeen TC9964

Dave I also have just put a pair of Excelsiors on the front of my TC and am so far pleased with the handling.( these were recomended by the supplier Longstone Tyres) I previously had Puma all round which the PO had used and were well worn. Paul TC3348
