Three questions

Post by Tombutlercpa@cs.com » Mon Aug 27, 2001 3:50 pm

At the beginning of July I posted a document with the above heading. The response from the group was overwhelming. I thought I'd let you know what happened as I followed your helpful advice. With regard to the FDHO Cam in my 1947 TC I believe I will keep it. The information indicates that it will reduce lifter wear and produce substantially the same performance as the stock Cam. Plus the engine runs with virtually no tappet noise with the valves adjusted to .012 clearances. I got a good deal of information indicating that the heads on my car should be using plugs with a half inch reach and so I am presently using the stock plug. It turned out the rich running problem was due to a list of causes which required rebuilding of almost the entire ignition system including advance springs and crane breakerless ignition. In addition one of the new carbs went back to Moss for a defect in the casting of the carb body. After following and using the information posted about ignition timing I have got this thing running so smooth the loudest noise is the timing chain which I will look into this winter. To those helpful and knowledgeable people who supplied so much information on wiring I extend my thanks. I have a nice fat folder to review this winter and surely will be posting more as I get into this. For the time being I am going to enjoy driving a smooth running relatively quiet and responsive 1947 TC. Thanks to all. Tom Butler TC 2105 XPAG 2820
