Silverstone - Friday and Saturday

Post by Michael Card » Sun Jun 24, 2001 1:12 am

Short report on the Silverstone meeting so far. It continues today, Sunday.
I attended for a couple of hours on Friday afternoon, mainly to tour the auto-jumble stalls, but the pickings were few as only about half the stall-holders had set up, the others preferring to await the crowds on Saturday.
On Saturday we again had hot dry weather, and a good gathering of about 10-12 TABC list members met in the bar at 1130am. Ib Lynge from Denmark had driven his TA all the way from home, and Peter Forstner from Munich was there with his wife. After drinks and a chat, we moved outside the marquee in which the bar was located, and lined up near a pair of M-types for photos. Ib's camera now carries a couple of shots of the gathering, and I think that Ib will send one to Walter as candidate for the monthly photo.
We enjoyed a good array of road T-types, and a very nice gathering of MMM road cars in the paddock. In addition, the Club had arranged a special display of MMM competition cars in a marquee, and MG-Rover had a selection of cars on display including one of the Le Mans racers. There were no less than three genuine K3s on the grid for the MMM race, plus a full and representative field of other competing MMMs . The T-racer boys, including list member Paddy Wilmer, put on a terrific show in the last race of the day.
Autojumble stalls were not so well-stocked for those seeking T-parts, but I did find a few items for my second TC. Some MMM parts about. Plenty of new and used MGB and modern Midget stuff. Overall, I think there were fewer stalls than in the past.
I will not be attending today Sunday [gardening duties], so maybe someone else will let us know the highlights. The weather will be excellent again.

Gents and Ladies and Badger, Missed silverstone 2000 cos I was getting married missed this year cos I was at Murray Arundells place drinking his wine but Im on a promise to journey there next year, the real subject of this mail having read about auto jumble or swap meets as they are known here,is that, I have a couple of TA type tyre pumps with the brass Ducks feet, external tube pump body and square wooden block handle the rubber tube is long time perished and the pumps are in good as found restorable condition. I would guess postage from Australia would be around $15-$20 US. I would prefer these to go to a home with a TA or TB with a genuine requirement rather than to a greedy collector on ebay or other auction. the best and fairest is best offer by the end of the week from any desperate TA owners. to bruce collins (the Australian one) bruce@planet.net.au
