Powder coating old chrome wire wheels

Post by Ken Enborg » Wed May 02, 2001 8:02 pm

I need some sage advice from the group on a reoccurring topic. But first I must confess it relates to the wire wheels on my 1958 XK150 not my MG TA, but the XK group seems to be in denial on the subject of powder coating. I am having my xk painted. As a result the 44 year old faded chrome wire wheels are less than impressive. I can't afford new and rechroming is probably too expensive as well. I would rather use the money to paint the TA. I am considering having the old chrome wire wheels stripped and powder coated silver as a lower cost alternative and continue to use them until the stock market rebounds or I win the lottery. Have any of you done this? Is this a stupid idea?
