Clikety Clack

When my XPAG was rebuilt three years ago a Crane cam was installed. The valve clearance was set at .012. Nice and quiet. Since I thought this was correct I did not change it. With the recent discussion on the Crane cam I decided to change the clearance to .018 intake and .020 exhaust. The valve noise is back as expected however the engine seems to run much better. The question now is has any damage been do to the engine due to the .012 setting? As one of our members once said, "a noisy valve is a happy valve." Ken TC 4147

Ken: When Moss first started buying the crane cam in question, they experimented with it for about two years an .012, as that is where a lot of people were used to. It ran just fine.I dont think that you have hurt a thing. Try setting it at .014 inlet, and .016 exhaust. I think you will be pleased with the overall performance. Plus, it isnt as noisy.
