Hood Wing Bolts

Post by C. Knight » Sun Feb 18, 2001 12:04 pm

How long should the wing bolts that secure the hood frame to the windscreen be. I have just bought a pair of reproduction chrome plated wing bolts to replace the home made T bolts on Glenys's TA. At 2 3/8 in. bolt length they seem over long. Thanks Cliff

If you bought them from Moss, the wing bolts may very well be long. I bought a pair of Wing nuts for my TC that were inappropriately shallow. One of the very little aggravations with repro parts.

Cliff 2 3/8 in seems about right. Measurements (metric) of my windscreen wing bolts are: - threaded portion from tip to shoulder: 44 mm; from shoulder to "head": 1.5 mm; "spread" of wings: 40 mm. Hood Wing Bolts

I am fitting a new hood (top) frame and I don't want to risk stripping the brass threads on the wing bolts, due to paint, machining debris etc in the tapped holes. I can't identify the thread before getting a tap. Anyone know the answer please? Graham TC 3107 Buckingham Sent from my iPad
