There are internet photo's of the KLR GS650 that has some very handsome side panels that are polished aluminum.  It may be in a thread called WheatWackerMod or something like that.

The thread is about cutting the gen1 cowl and pushing it forward, supported by added side-plates to achieve a  Dakar looking cowling
