Or burn em out?    Have a safe week.   David Z mobile: 646.267.1109 poisonpartyband.com <><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><>   David,   Maybe someone had an oily rag/paper towel in the head or header and forgot to take it out when the muffler was removed/installed and it has now moved into the muffler.   A rattle sound might be a broken piece of exhaust inside the muffler.  I've heard of them rotting after a while and breaking off.  Usually it doesn't cause any issue but sometimes it will slow the exhaust gasses from exiting and limit engine performance.  If the noise is of real concern maybe cut an opening in the back side of the muffler with a cutoff wheel and inspect the inside.  Then weld the piece back in place and finally paint with Bar-B-Que or other high heat type paint.  You might also be able to insert a longish bar/rod in the muffler exit and see if the innards are tight/secure.  Might not want to work it too hard though.   Coolant in the engine will normally turn the oil milky but coolant in the engine usually can't be smelled until the engine seizes from lack of lubrication.   My guess is the new to you muffler is the entire issue.   Best, Jeff Saline The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650   . . . . . . . . ______________________________ ______________________________ [b]Affordable Wireless Plans[/b] Set up is easy.
