The Shinko 705's I got seem to be holding up well after almost a year.
They are not too pricey and corner well and are a lot quieter than the knobbies I always had before.

My 1993 klx650 is burning oil need to find a rebuild kit and can't find much... Any ideas on where to find?

I would (google) then call Eagle Mike; he certainly can do the cylinder rebore and probably can source the correct piston and rings.If your year KLX is the same piston as the same year KLR, then most likely his KLR 685 piston and rings will fit your KLX; do the due diligence and search the parts fiche and see if they are the same prior to calling Mike so you have an idea where to go. The micro fiche, expanded parts diagram are available at RMATAV, Parts Bandit, RonAyers, and Kawasaki OEM sites.m.

Eagle Mike, I just got mine back together, I Ordered the 685 Kit and sent him the Cylinder & Head. Figured $160. more let the PROS rebuilt the Head while its apart.  4week turnaround, AFTER he gets your stuff.   (OR??? Order the Kit you want, and have Other stuff done Locally. I Chose to have E.M. Something like that?  The cylinder necked down and there wasn't enough material on the walls.  Can someone refresh my memory and how this would impact someone with a 1993 KLX motor that wanted to rebore.  That's if the cylinders are the same as on the KLR from 1993.  Are they?

95 and earlier KLR cylinders were too thin to do the 685 overbore, but you can take them at least once factory overbore.

 

I ve got a 98 cylinder/head for mine when it s time. Too busy riding it right now.

KLX Cylinders are different from the KLR

 

There are also 2 different KLX-650 cylinders:

 

KLX-650A - the kick start, off road only model - is all aluminum with Nickasil coating. If you bore it out for a larger piston, you are down to the bare aluminum. There are shops that can insert a steel liner.

 

KLX-650C - the street legal, electric start model - has a thick steel sleeve and can be bored out to 678cc or even 701cc and there is still enough liner to be good to go.

 

KLR pistons (stock or oversize) would actually fit into a KLX, but the piston height is slightly higher and makes for something like a 16:1 compression ratio, which would not be good.

Something like that?  The cylinder necked down and there wasn't enough material on the walls.  Can someone refresh my memory and how this would impact someone with a 1993 KLX motor that wanted to rebore.  That's if the cylinders are the same as on the KLR from 1993.  Are they?

How about where to get 2004 motor rebuilt/685 kit done in east coast Vermont Albany NY area ?
