progressive 465 series shock -1" hard anodized for kawasaki klr650 1

I'm looking to upgrade my stock rear shock on my 2001 KLR w/33,000 miles (yes I know: what have I been waiting for). would this be a good option? Finished a 1400 mile trip last month with Tusk panniers on it and know I need something stiffer than what I've got. Don't mind if it lowers it a bit as this bike has always been a bit tall for me. Need to do the front as well. Thanks in advance if anyone has an opinion, John Sent

You can ride commando, it's your bike. I use a hair dryer to heat the decal and begin a corner and slowly lift. Always works.

Suggestions, comments, please. Eddie San Antonio, Texas, Republic of (Texit coming soon........???)

Thanks in advance if anyone has an opinion, John <><><><><><><> <><><><><><><>   John,   If I was going to upgrade the suspension on a KLR I would contact the folks at Cogent and use what they suggest.  They have a stellar reputation for product, product support and customer service.  Talking with them will get you excellent information on what will work.  They can take care of the front and the rear.   Best, Jeff Saline The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650 . . . . . . .   . ____________________________________________________________ 3 Signs You May Have a Fatty Liver [Watch] livecellresearch.com http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3142/581fb4382f5ff34386b14st02vuc

Cogent has a great reputation and is probably has the best KLR shock available, from what I've read. But Progressive is maybe half the price. My 2002 KLR came to me with a 465 -1" and it works great. I rode 8,000+ miles across America in August fully loaded with Givi bags and camping gear. I'm 6'1" 215 lbs and I sit just a little on my toes with my standard seat. My Progressive worked great on my cross-country trip, except for an incident in Reno NV. I thought I had blown out the rear Progressive shock because all of a sudden, my rear end was bottoming out. It turned out to be the 2 preload lock springs had been loosening as I was riding along on the trip, and they finally loosened enough so I was bottoming out in Reno. I had my Progressive shock checked out at a great suspension shop in Reno, Ride or Race Moto Source, and then tightened up the preload nuts over an inch and it's working great again. I still can't believe the shock lock nuts would back off like that, little by little over time. The 2 locknuts were still tight when we took it off the bike. I've since painted a line over the nits and threads so I'll know it it ever starts loosening again. Good luck with your shock choice ! Pete

Between Jeff's advice and mine, choose his.  But I had the short 465 on my dear departed '99 and it was great.
