Was a nice tour. <><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> zoot, Best I can tell from your description and looking in a Clymer Manual (M474-3), Chapter 5, Engine Lower End, page 126 of my manual under Disassembly... That is one of thirteen bolts holding the case halves together. I think it would be ok to remove it, clean and inspect the bolt and the case. If all looks ok (I bet it will) reinstall the bolt. Looks like it goes in clean and dry. Torque for the 8mm bolts is 14 foot pounds according to Clymer. I don't think it would hurt anything to put a dab of non hardening sealant under the head of the bolt.
