This bike is a 2000 KLR  which should be the same. Using the voltmeter on my Garmin GPS which is hooked up directly to the battery, I did a run yesterday to  see what it would read. At 2000 rpm I was reading 14 to 14.1 Volts   At 4000 I was reading 13.5 to 13.6.

Then saw while rereading your post you had wanted a reading at 5000. Sigh! Very seldom I ever rev that high.

I'm in the market for a second motorcycle. I am debating between a Triumph Thruxton, and a Moto Guzzi V7.  Considering those two choices, which would you go with???? And, yes I know, it is borderline heresy to discuss Triumphs and Moto Guzzi's in front of this exalted group......  Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

No contest! The goose! You will not find anything from an English speaking country on two wheels worth more than scrap price! Get the Goose, the Brit crap will just make you crazy. I love my Goose, wouldn't trade it for 5 Brit bikes.

Since you mentioned it, lol I'd go with the Africa Twin; much more versatile. Maybe faster too. Moto Guzzis don't have a very good reputation for reliability.     Maybe they've gotten better lately.

My modified 2014 Triumoh Thruxton is reliable and parts and service is ok in this area (Reno). The 2016 Thruxton R is better with water cooling, 96 hp, ABS, TC, Brembo brakes and Ohlins shocks standard. Moto Guzzi 's unique v-Twin design with shaft drive is another option for your street ride, less HP but more refined ride. Mark

How about a naked KLR without all the plastic, with lower links, good set of street tires and a 17" front wheel laced to existing hub?  A naked KLR Super Moto?  That way, you get the fun/satisfaction of building and not just throwing cash at your itch.  Then you have spare parts that match the other existing KLR.
I second the idea of upright riding position for any bike.

Brevio and Griso by Moto Guzzi are a lot more powerful than that V7 and I enjoyed my test rides on both

you may think you can, & you make think you can't... and you're right!!
