How much voltage should you be seeing out of a voltage regulator on an 89 KLR650? At 2000 and at 5000 rpm.
2014 good year for klrs? (i miss you guys)

For that, I'd buy a new one.

I miss my stolen A13, and the camaraderie of the KLR online community (that means you guys). Local dealer has a 2014 for $5500 + tax/license. Odo reads 8300. Any peculiarities about the 2014 models, or is it too soon to tell?
I didn't know how rare and special this community is until I tried to find the same for the DR350 I bought after the KLR was stolen.

Just checked the output on an amp meter at 2000rpm it would indicate about 8 amps but as you increase the rpms the output starts to decrease and goes to 0. Do you think it might be the regulator?

That's the usual cause of those symptoms, IME. What happens to the AC voltage across each of the stator leads ?

Have not tried that. What should it be at what rpm?

This bike is a 2000 KLR which should be the same. Using the voltmeter on my Garmin GPS which is hooked up directly to the battery, I did a run yesterday to see what it would read. At 2000 rpm I was reading 14 to 14.1 Volts At 4000 I was reading 13.5 to 13.6.
Then saw while rereading your post you had wanted a reading at 5000. Sigh! Very seldom I ever rev that high.

110% lone solo rider here. ;-) If I need to run over 55/60 mph where I'm going, I use the Bandit.
