Following which, the engine won't crank so I'm blaming Paul. It's obviously his fault for suggesting the modification while not including a reminder to remember to unplug the O2 sensor so the heater wouldn't kill the battery. Not saying it's his fault, just that I'm blaming him. ;-) The initial observation is that the engine idles 300 - 400 RPM higher than before. I did nothing else but realize that something may have occurred so hope to swap oil filter covers with another KLR soon to see if the effect remains with the filter housing cover. On reflection, it seemed simpler to install the restriction into the oil filter housing cover than into the side case cover as Paul has reported. The cover is easily removed for modifying r replacement. I also used a press fit plug in the oil gallery of the cover rather than drilling and threading the oil gallery in the side cover. A brass spark plug top makes a very tight press fit into the bore of the oil gallery and was easy to thread the larger end to 5 mm x 0.8 to match a standard KLR carb main jet. Paul recommended a #44 ( 0.086") drill but since the closest I had made a 0.092" hole I went with that for now as can switch the jet later. I chucked the spark plug end into a drill chuck to hold and threaded to 5 mm. The jet was tightened into the plug end, then the two were pressed into the oil gallery in the filter cover. Since the outside of the cover is curved, the sides of the jet protrude when the center of the jet was pressed in, using my bench vise. A slot screwdriver bit was engaged into the slot of the jet which allowed the jet to be pressed just below the level of the cover. The filter cover provides the restriction rather than to restrict the side case cover which addresses one concern I have which was the ability to inspect and clean the orifice either manually or with shop air. I propose to do this frequently until confident that nothing will lodge in the orifice. Here is a link to some photos of the task if anyone is interested.  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5ydzrmxzg...9OdPqg2Ia?dl=0 I cannot express the degree of appreciation and respect for the work of both Paul and Tom.

I have no idea what the "Westman" mod is or why I'd want to do it.    Will this make my KLR run like a KTM?    Paul Streeter

closeout sale, whitehorsegear.com

I see WhitehorseGear.com is having closeout sales on several Gen One and some Gen Two stuff.  I have no interest, financially or otherwise, my KLR remaining obstinately stolen. -JW
