Hello, I am trying to find out if my motorcycle computer is fried. The bike was stolen. I put the key in the ignition and the lights work but I can not get the bike to start. Even if I push it. Is there any way to check the computer without buying a new one?I have spark, gas,oil etc.. Thanks! -- David Z mobile: 646-267-1109 www.thelegendofzarko.com

Personally I would start with checking the switches first:  kill switch, neutral safety switch, kick stand switch, clutch lever switch.  They might appear ok externally while malfunctioning internally. Hey Don, Thanks for getting back to me. Its my friends bike so he said yes but I personally did not check. Should I have spark if the comp is fried?  The crooks cut the wires and tried to jump it. The fuse was blown. I will check for the spark today.   -David Zmobile: 646.267.1109www.thelegendofzarko.com

Hi Mike, It's actually Yamaha xt225 and I meant the cdi unit. I hope I don't get killed by fellow members.. I had my klr stolen before as well and they tried to jump it.  I replaced the cdi and the bike started right up.   Thanks.  -David Zmobile: 646.267.1109www.thelegendofzarko.com

David....Are we talking KLR's ???   KLR's don't have computers ...They have CDI ignitions.... Does it crank over ???  check the spark....I had the exciter coil on the stator assembly go out once from trying to "hotwire" my bike....It generates the power for the ignition.  I had an XT 225. Great bike, but it would not start after the gas was left in it a few days.  As someone suggested, check to be sure you are getting spark, and you probably are.  Then pull off the seat to get access to the air box. (This can be done without pulling off the seat)  Get a propane torch to use to apply gas to the air box as you crank the engine.  Once it starts, let it run on the gas until it will run on its on with gasoline.  I have done this many times and it is easier than draining the carb and adding fresh gas.

What year XT225? Its best to include the make, model and year of the machine when requesting information. Even KLR Gen1 and Gen2 have some significant differences which waste a lot of time in using the wrong series.

I ve attended a couple of these HU events before and they are always a good time. There are typically two or three folks in attendance who are presently completing their around the world trip (frequently Europeans); lots of other good people, a few presentations worth attending.  This venue (Grant, CO) looks great as it is in the middle of lots of great dual sport riding including a lot of high elevation off road passes that should be snow-free at this time.

I could fit this in on the way to my annual Montana fishing trip are any listers planning on attending this event?
