<><><><><><> <><><><><><> Ateam, Wattman has a special jig for drilling a hole in the edge of the hub next to the bearing. A cutoff drill bit is installed in the hole and that will drive the speedo tabs/drive. You might contact him about borrowing it. He has saved some pretty nasty hubs with awful damage using this method. Are you stuck because of this situation? If you are you should be able to gut the speedo drive (just remove the large gear) and assemble the speedo drive housing and wheel. You won't have a speedo but you should be able to ride. What is wrong with the speedometer assembly? The hub is finished. The wheel bearing is unsupported so that's the end of that game. I doubt that you will find someone willing to repair (welding and machining) the hub because of safety considerations. Very lucky that you didn't crash with the hub that bad. A friend could do the repair but don't know if the would be willing (helicopter turbine part repair) and cost would be too high. Are you able to find another front wheel complete on line? I see a bunch on Ebay for under $200.00. Lacing a wheel is becoming less fun as the years go by and the cost of a set of spokes..... ------ Original Message ------ From: "Ateam" To: "Norm Keller" ; DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: 2015-05-10 9:37:35 PM Subject: In Search a Front Wheel or Hub - 2006 KLR

I have been staying with my mother since August. I buried her last Sunday. There is a ton of stuff do do here in Kentucky before I return to New Mexico. My KLR is my therapy. Yea there is a bit of tab left on one side but the hub is wasted for sure. I have looked on eBay, there are a few but leery of buying a 1997 KLR wheel. The best deal is like $350. OEM hub and assembly is like over $400 bucks. Geez. Thanks for the responses. My 1997 front wheel is in very good condition so hope that an bike wrecker will be able to assure of good condition. I'd go for a Gen2 front if had the option. ------ Original Message ------ From: "Ateam" To: "Norm Keller" ; DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: 2015-05-10 10:22:07 PM Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] Re: In Search a Front Wheel or Hub - 2006 KLR http://6845CDDF19C745FCA67ACF9031C11524@OwnerPC" type="cite"> I have been staying with my mother since August.
