I don't know your age or driving history, but I pay about $200/yr for 300k/500k liability on a KLR and a Harley, with comp on the Harley.  51 yrs/clean record.  Allstate.  I have cars and house with them also.   Jeff     -----Original Message----- From: achesley43@... Liability only. We have everything with them, house, car , truck , boat and both bikes.

AAA has the BEST pricing on MC medical. (because in MI. Motorcycles are NOT a motor vehicle so Med is extra.) With since 83, and just learned last yr. By Belonging to a Credit union I saved over $130. a yr. (been with one over 20 yrs. was never asked or told.)(HMMM? Use a Bank and you pay more. what does that say about banks? LOL)  On Thursday, September 18, 2014 8:52 PM, "jokerloco9@... [DSN_KLR650]" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> wrote:

I have used, and for now will continue to use, Progressive; best rates I have found, and great customer service.  I also use Progressive for my car, once had a minor fender bender, and the rates did not go up.  I could care less that Geo. Soros owns Progressive just like I could care less what company Dick Cheney or Bill Gates owns.
(Snarky Alert) I buy based on quality and price not, my personal politics, but, to each his own.  Oh, and have you seen those commercials with "Flo", now that is a real selling point for me!  Always buy from whoever has the best commercials - a talking gecko or duck does not work for me........ you just cant trust animated sales pitch spokes persons........ Thanks to those who answered my question. I'll stay with Progressive. Safeco is, by far, the least expensive, but got very poor ratings/reviews. Gerry

My present day wife is an independent insurance agent.  She has carried Safeco for 25 years or so.  She also carries Farmers and Progressive.  Safeco is more expensive but in her opinion much better at customer service and claims.  A few years ago our area was hit by a massive storm with hail damaged by hail.  Safeco was on the ground and processing claims very quickly. It must vary by location. But, from a repair shop standpoint, both Geico and Progressive were hard to work with here in Columbus, GA. I remember on several occasions they wouldn't have repair estimate information for a given bike model and their adjusters would just "guess" using a similar size bike.  I'm making up this example. But, it conveys the situation: A GL1800 Gold Wing not in their lists would get 0.2 hours (That's twelve minutes!) to replace a saddlebag because a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 saddlebag in their system only takes that long.  We'd have to explain to the adjuster all that's involved in replacing the Honda bag and a supplement work order created and wait for THAT check. This is addition to them sending an adjuster who was not familiar with motorcycles at all out to examine a bike. That sort of stuff happened again and again. -eddie

What do you insure? - Full coverage? Just curious.... 2002 KLR650 - $90/yr basic legal minimum - Allstate, but I'm agnostic about them. They were cheaper than Liberty Mutual. Thanks, -Stu

klr seat cheap fix

Post by bryanonfire » Fri Oct 24, 2014 6:26 pm

My KLR came used with a cheap aftermarket seat. The original owner took the stock seat to an upholstery shop that added and inch of foam and widened it a bit. It's pretty comfortable, but after 20,000 miles is starting to get packed down a bit. Then I added a sheep skin ($50 at IKEA) by sewing a tie-down tab at each corner and tying it off to the frame.   Very comfortable, good in hot or cold, and every couple of years I throw away the sheep skin. When new and clean, the sheep skin makes a nice addition to by bed roll, too.
