removable case mount
Sorry if this posted twice. I think the first attempt at new topic failed.
I was looking online trying to find a way to mount a top case that could be easily removed. I found these marine tracks and slides, etc. Does anyone have a better idea?

removable case mount
I use the Trax top box and mount from Twisted Throttle. A single key locking latch and the box slides off. Very rugged mounts and rack system. The top box fits my Arai XD4 helmet w/ room for extras, or my laptop in the backpack. I also run the Trax 38ltr panniers on their quick release racks. Well made stuff.

removable case mount
Hi Paul There are lots of removable top box and mount combinations available in the marketplace at a range of price points. So it seems that engineering talent directed to solving how one could quickly remove and remount a top case could be directed instead to other endeavors. I have used removable top boxes from Givi, cheap Chinese Givi clones, Shad, OEM Suzuki and Hepco-Becker. I had a cheap Chinese clone top box fly off unnoticed at speed in North Dakota and the top box and contents were never recovered, at least not recovered by me. That was about a $2000 uninsured loss (camera, computer, cell phone, shoes, shaver, medication etc) so I don t recommend the cheap Chinese givi clone top boxes. But I do know several people who run these clones without issues.. Maybe I just got a bad one. I ve have not been impressed with the OEM Suzuki top box, it had a tendency to jettison springs when closed, forcing one to break into their own topbox to reassemble the latching mechanism. I found the locking and latching mechanism needlessly complex and finicky, seehttp://johnbiccum.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Suzuki-topcase/8725117_t3Ptrn#!i=576836992&k=Sm9JBnP for pics. I ve run Shad top boxes and they are OK. I also had Shad side cases on a Wee I rented in the UK and they gave great service although their odd shape made packing a challenge. I think Shad top boxes (and side cases) represent a good value. The genuine Givi top boxes have given me good service although it was possible to ride away from a photo stop with the box lid unlatched resulting in another expensive uninsured casualty loss (shoes, medication, thermos L ). My favorite top box is the Hepco-Becker. Their mounting and latching system is simple, secure and it s easy to tell at a glance if the box is properly latched. The Hepco-Becker Junior is what I have. My only knock on the Hepco-Becker top boxes is that they mount the box quite far aft so if you haul gold bullion or lead bars you may unweight the front wheel enough ot have handling problems. These two both come with their own base, and are removable with a key.
The second one is sturdier. The price on the second one must be wrong,
it's usually about $75. I've owned both, and don't have a favorite.

Guess you wouldn't like my Hello Kitty stickers, then :^) I need to make one with her in the Tuareg outfit a la the Paris-Dakar logo.
My full face helmet won't fit in a Pelican case. It also looks more manly than the faux wicker one I had ziptied to my other KLR

My Givi case can't be driven away from with the latch unlocked, as it's on the same ring as the ignition key.
