If I m going on a long ride I prefer my modular helmet.  If your helmet has a visor, it can be a bad deal in the wind.  I love the Hornet but difficult to take off, very hot and limited vision.  However if your in a wreck, a full face helmet is the best thing going.   Your mileage may vary (YMMV). I agree.  I have a well used Shoei Hornet dual sport helmet and a virtually unused Shoei RF1000. I find the RF1000 too hot, too confining and too hard to keep fog-free in Seattle rain. The RF1000 is quieter though, especially with both helmets visors down. I normally ride with the Hornet's visor  up, using safety glasses or sunglasses to protect my eyes. Just say No to face shields, Bubba and others. I feel like my head is in a fish tank when I lower and close one.   Hey .. you should be riding with a dual sport helmet anyway who wants to tour with lid that does not even sport a visor ?  Dirt and dual sport helmets work great with googles or wrap-around sun glasses.  I do carry a shield in my Givi in case of a long intense downpour; I haven't snapped it in for a long time now/years.   You'll appreciate the passing landscape more, as well ,when you don't deal with face shield refraction.   Bogdan   From: "Bubba Gee underappreciated1@... Here is some more of my two cents.... I remember a ride from dallas tax, to Jackson hole Wyoming, My helmet dropped during a refuel. Cracked the face shield. I had to stare at a crazy glue repair for another 2000 miles..... After about 600miles, I bought a new helmet. I have tried to repair sunglass lenses and been unsatisfied. I am one of those people who would be able to answer the question of life after death if I didn't have a good helmet. (That one was borrowed at the time) So I don't mind spending some money on safety stuff. But I could see repairing a face shield for in town riding... I would probably still buy the replacement for road trips.....   From: 'Norm Keller' normkel32@... Sent: Sun, Sep 14, 2014 8:29:29 PM   One can produce a better quality finish with fewer perfections than new. It's all a matter of attention & effort.   The "wouldn't do it" comment is well stated in that one should consider the cost of the finish materials and effort. I've had good service from refinish but then like to repair things while others find these sorts of operations to be poor value.   One should absolutely be aware of the effects of any imperfections as advised they might be a problem especially on a long, tired ride. Maybe like that bug one is unwilling to stop and remove?  ;-) Posted by: Bogdan Swider   [The entire original message is not included.] Reply via web post
