For sure , if you need to disassemble any switch, coat it also. Pays big rewards down the road.  

Gen 1 KLR 66000km running great until a week or so ago. Problem:  Idle would start to drop, idle adjust screw had to keep being turned up to keep idle, would not start when engine was hot, had to give it a touch of throttle, maybe a little less midrange power.  The idle issue was also very on and off.  One idle fine next one no good fine for a day then back to same issue.  Idle would only go down never go up. Troubleshooting:  Valves were checked in spring and should be good so I did not open it up.  Ran two tanks of seafoam did not help.  Pulled the air cleaner seemed pretty dirty so cleaned oiled and put back.  Seemed fine YAY.  Then idle issue came back driving home.  Could not find any vacuum leaks using WD40.  Was looking at either pulling carb or looking at valves when Jeff Saline said to look at the vacuum line to see if there was gas in it.  Sure enough there was. Solution:  I had a raptor gravity petcock I was going to install a year ago, when I had an issue but it turned out not to be the petcock so I left it.  Pulled the tank, bolted on the new petcock and put a cap on the carb.  Figured I would have to adjust the idle down since I had been setting it higher to keep idle.  Did the changes and the bike idles great, starts great and runs happy.  Many thanks to Jeff and the group.  Hope this little write up helps someone else.
