JW-It has been my experience-You will add ~400rpm with each drop in front C/s tooth from 15.Since,You are on a 14, you will add ~400 to your 5000 (5400) at 65mph. ~800rpm increase going from the 15 to 13. Some call the drop from 15 to 13, '1000'rpm.Toe-may-toe, to-maat-toe.
Oddly, at Great Divide speeds, the gas mileage increased or remained the same using a 13/43 combination = speeds of ~45mph/53MPG. At Black Hills Canyon speeds, uh, not so much. shrug. = speeds, not ~45mph; Ask Criswell for verification.
IRT to the 13T/43T combination-You will have increased, low-speed control of your bike with the 13T c/s; be sure your 13T has two shoulders for proper clearance, Clarence, and place the wide side of the two sprocket shoulders against the engine case.If you have the misfortune to buy a 13 T with only one shoulder (Fred's sprockets have two shoulders, yeah!) you will need a special washer (I bought mine/available from Eagle Mike) to make up the difference on the engine side of the case. CAUTION: If you run a 13T with only one shoulder, and run it without the washer, the sprocket nut will not tighten properly and chain will rub the bearing boss. ok, amhik.m1.

I'm at 65 mph actual at 5000 rpm in fifth. Martin, does that mean I'll be at 5800 with a 13?-jwf--------------- Martin is absolutely correct about the 13 tooth front sprocket. The only reason I am running a 14 tooth is that the 13 tooth arrived after I put the 14 tooth on after I wore out the 13 tooth. And freeway merging is more fun with the 14 tooth since I can be at 50 MPH in fourth, but that's another story. Cheers Martin! You da man! Robert Wichert P.Eng.
