getting loose

Tire pressure also. NEED to be at the higher end for higher speeds, John B. pointed that out after I did every thing else. What psi s great for below 55 is not for 60 and over, 65  is about where I started shaking. Someday we need to invent a weather proof MOUNTED air compressor. (since we change the PSI SO OFTEN.)

For a Gen I: Best to get the front wheel off the ground and then: Take the handlebars off.  LOOSEN THE LOWER FORK PINCH NUTS.  Remove the bearing head lock nut.  Tighten the slotted bearing tension nut.  You will need a spanner wrench to tighten it.  http://www.sears.com/shc/s/t_10153_12605?tName=adjustable-spanner-wrench.html  Don't be afraid to put some tension on it.  Check for free play.  Free play is bad. Re-tighten the lock nut.  RE-TIGHTEN THE LOWER FORK PINCH NUTS. Fred taught me how.  If I've forgotten anything, maybe he'll straighten me out. Makes a big difference.   Robert Wichert P.Eng. Is there any thing that could suddenly affect that?  With the VMax we had the Furber Fix (re washering the steering head) Anything in the steering head for a KiLleR. It really is as loose as my first wife at the bar on a Saturday night...

YES KLRish
In Michigan (& near by states) we have Great Lakes Dual Sport Motorcycle club" (.org)
And 1 person received about 18 responses to "ASSISTANCE" in the topic line.
His bike ran fine last fall when put into storage mode, yet when he hits the start button NOTHING, NO CLICK AT ALL.
As you would expect from bikers everyone came to the "rescue" with advice to try and help.
1st thing he did was install a New battery. Nope not it. Then all the other stuff he and the others could think of.
EXCEPT, He forgot that when he parked it, OOP'S, IT WAS IN GEAR!
Moral of the story, many of us will forget the simplest, tinniest things, as we get the BEAST out of storage mode.
ME? Even Daily, I try to never park the bike in gear, in the garage, since I walk up to it on the RIGHT SIDE, and if both cars are in the drive I often push it out, SOOOO I park it in neutral, and IF I forget?, I grab the bars and YANK BACKWARDS, and if in gear OUCH to the elbows etc.
SPRING IS HERE Remember the SMALLEST details, make a check list, before "FEELING FOOLISH" when asking for help on why your bike will not start etc.. LOL
PS. WE HAVE ALL BEEN THERE, DONE THAT, AND RETURNED A FEW TIMES MORE. LOL
