my gas tank still whistles

Post by RobertWichert » Fri Mar 21, 2014 6:40 pm

I can't tell if it's whistling out or whistling in, but even when I open the gas cap with a WOOOSH it starts up again when I put it back on, even with the engine off. Ghosts sucking on it, or what? -- Robert Wichert P.Eng. LEED AP BD&C +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ===============================================

Yes, Jeff.  We went through this months ago.  I found all of your pictures and based on the complicated nature of the ting, I bought a brand new one.  The whistling doesn't cause any problems.  The engine doesn't stall or stumble.  It just whistles. What I can't figure out is why, for the love of money, it continues after I open the cap and reclose it WITH THE ENGINE OFF!!!!! Robert P. Temperature changes or agitation of the contents: Gasoline vaporizes and produces mild pressure. = Whistle. When the bike isn't whistling (engine off), give it a good shake from side to side and see what happens. I bet it starts whistling again. =) eddie in Ga.

OK, next test is coming soon! By the way, if the cap is whistling, does that mean that the vapor recovery isn't working? I mean, whistling OUT would be supposed to go to the vapor recovery, right? Think Tea Kettle, heat from engine, warms the tank, about causing vapors = "Whistle".
